Contentment in God

1 Timothy 6:1-10

Many popular religious programs, books, and speakers have promoted a set of beliefs that have become known as the prosperity gospel. This line of thinking tells you that God just wants you to be happy and rich, and that God will give you everything you ask for. It sounds good, but the Bible paints a different picture.

When we read the stories of believers, how many were told to give up what they had? How many lived in slavery, poverty, and struggles? Many came under persecution and suffered losses because of their faith.

There is a warning here for those who choose to chase after financial gain. Those who use evil, deceitful, and corrupt means to obtain financial gain will not find godliness or truth. Instead, they will find ruin and destruction.

Scripture makes it clear we will leave the earth with the same possessions we had coming into it: nothing. Instead of chasing earthly gains, we need to place our focus on being content in the riches of the kingdom of God and our place with Him in eternity.
