Knows The Truth

January 19th, 2024

1 Timothy 4:1-10

There are some common phrases that you may have heard: “God helps those who help themselves.” “Cleanliness is next to godliness.” “Spare the rod, spoil the child.” “This too shall pass.” Would it surprise you to know that all these phrases came up in a search for things people commonly think are in the Bible, but actually aren’t?

In 1 Timothy 4, Paul cautions us to be aware of things that aren’t God’s truth. Myths, old wives’ tales, and false teaching were just as common back then as they are for us today. Many will claim to know the truth and try to pass things off as gospel, but no matter how good we might think something sounds, it’s not always from God.

Paul says it is up to us to not only learn and know the truth, but to teach others the truth as well. We do this by spending time reading Scripture, praying, and engaging in teaching and preaching so that we can distinguish the truth from lies. By learning and knowing the truth, we solidify our relationship with God for now and eternity.
