God Is Honest

October 19th, 2023

Matthew 10:9-20

Prophets can be likened to alarm clocks. Prophets were sent by God to be a “wake up call” from the bad choices that people were making. Not many people are terribly fond of their alarm clocks. In some cartoons, an alarm clock rings out and shortly after the character hurls it across the room. Prophets were similar in that they alerted people to the areas of their lives that need light and repentance. Prophets also were disdained and resented for their messages.

God was honest with Ezekiel right up front: this call to be a prophet would not be easy. God even let Ezekiel know that no one would listen! That would be really disheartening, but the takeaway is that Ezekiel was faithful. God called him to be a prophet. God gave him a message. God was honest that it would not be easy and no one would listen. Ezekiel could have ignored God, but instead, he was faithful. Ezekiel is a great example of faithfulness even when it is not going to be easy.
