Teach Us

Titus 2:6-15

Somehow, I had the idea that saying “no” might get easier with time, as if the maturing process brought less temptation and less desire for the “shiny things” of life. It may be that maturity gives us a clearer perspective of the pitfalls or the consequences. However, every decade and each season of life unveils areas in which we are still tempted, or maybe even newly tempted.

Regardless of our age, we need to continually be reminded that God calls us to self-control and to live upright, godly lives. We are called to this because our role in this world is to be the image bearers of God. We may be the only flesh and blood articulation of Jesus that some will see. When we live our lives for self without regard for what God calls us to or how God calls us to live, the image we bear is unclear. God’s call on our lives is to live humbly so that both the justice and the mercy of God are narratives of our lives.
