Called To More

Ephesians 5:8-20
Often when a Christian leader suffers a moral failure in the public eye, many will proclaim, “There but for the grace of God, go I!” I understand the sentiment. Moments like those will bring to mind just how deep the chasm of depravity goes and brings up within us an appreciation for the wellspring of grace that overflows even the deepest pit of evil.
However, God did not just save us so that we might walk through life narrowly skirting the world’s most vile transgressions. He called us to holiness.
When we respond to horrifying abuses of power and authority by wiping our brow and exclaiming, “Thank God it wasn’t me!” we give so little credit to the power of the Spirit to equip us to live righteously. We forget the training of Scripture that serves as a powerful guide to help us live full and abundant lives.
God has called us to live holy lives, filled with the Spirit, guided by the wisdom He has given and overflowing with His praise. This beautiful, holy life is God’s gift to us.
