Genesis 27:1-10
Sometimes, doing what is right is not that simple. Sometimes there are tensions between what our dear ones want and what God wants, as in the case of Rebekah. Her husband, Isaac, loved their older twin Esau best, while Rebekah loved their younger twin Jacob best (25:28). God had clearly said to her that He wanted to elevate Jacob, but her husband wanted to bless Esau (v. 23).
We know God had told Rebekah that “the older will serve the younger” (v. 23), but that is all the Scripture says regarding their conversation. Why did Rebekah do what she did? We simply do not know. However, we do know that her solution brought much pain.
What can we learn from this situation? There are times when we simply have to wait on God to bring about His plans and purposes for our lives and those of the people we love.
