Love Is Helping Others

Hebrews 6:1-12
How do you express your love for God? You are doing your devotions now. You likely spend time in prayer and worship. Hopefully you participate in a local church and allow God to guide your life. In Hebrews 6 it says we show God our love when we help God’s people. Helping others demonstrates our love to God.
There are several ways to help God’s people, but the context here points to contending for others. The early church was facing persecution, discouragement, financial hardship, and the ever-present temptation to fall away. It was faithful followers of Jesus who intervened and brought encouragement, community, provision, and hope to those who were facing difficult times. They fought for one another, had each other’s backs.
The writer tells us that God remembers our contention for one another. This work is not done in vain. Imagine being an encouragement to others as well as to God.
Who in your life can you contend for? Who needs your encouragement? Show your love for God by fighting on their behalf.
