1 Peter 3:8-17

I am the older to identical triplet brothers. I lived—that in itself is pretty amazing. It is hard to believe, but the four of us did not always get along: we fought, wrestled, yelled, were selfish and cruel to one another at times. Now I have three sons and a daughter of my own and they do the exact same thing.

Family is hard and they often get the raw, unfiltered, unguarded emotions that we hide away from the rest of the world. So why did Peter say, “love each other as brothers and sisters”? I think it is because family gets it. We know that on the inside we may fight and bicker, but we would go to the ends of the earth, even death itself, could not keep us from caring for one another deeply.

As the body of Christ we are family. It is imperfect and hard sometimes. However, if we follow the instructions of Peter—to be loving, tenderhearted, peace-seeking, and humble—we may find that our family is far more amazing than we ever imagined. It might just be the type of family worth journeying alongside on the adventure of kingdom-seeking.
