Matthew 23:23-32.

Jesus called out religious leaders for focusing on matters that were not important. The leadership writer Stephen Covey said, « Keep the main thing the main thing. » The teachers of the law and the Pharisees in today’s scripture and throughout the New Testament were guilty of making the law and adherence to the law the main thing. Jesus here was saying those were not the main thing, nor were they the most important matters of the law.

So what are the most important things? What are the main things we should be focused on?

The greatest commandment and the great commission are the main thing. Our relationship with God, our relationship with others, and our telling others about God are the important and crucial matters. These are the things that we should be spending our time, energy, efforts, and resources on, including money.

Today, as you are doing life, focus on the main thing. Love and serve God, love and serve others. Tell others about God’s love for them. If we do that wholeheartedly, earnestly seeking after Christ, then we will be authentic Christ-followers.
