I Didn’t Do It
December 31st, 2024
Isaiah 53:4-8
One of my least favorite lines to hear from a child is, “What did I do? I didn’t do anything!” I especially dislike it after I have calmly explained to the boy or girl in question exactly what it is they are guilty of doing. They are convinced they are innocent, and I am left wondering what became of their “listening ears.”
Things are a bit different with Jesus. If He says He “didn’t do it,” He really hasn’t done “it.” Often, Jesus was creative in His responses, meeting questions with questions or speaking in parables. Yet in the end, Jesus was innocent of whatever supposed wrongdoing He had been blamed for.
The accusations of those around Him weren’t the only burdens that our Savior had to bear. Every sin that anyone had ever or would commit lay on His shoulders.
Jesus Christ willingly took our punishment for the wrongs that were ours so that we could have eternal life. Because of His great love, He paid the ultimate price for our salvation with His life.
