Instant Recall

John 3:9-18

Anyone with even a little formal education memorizes a lot of valuable life information: colors, shapes, math facts, sight words, formulas, famous speeches, rules of the road. All of these things are instantly recalled when needed and equip us to live life.

Those of us who grew up in church most likely memorized some things that served as building blocks for our faith. Hymn lyrics, doctrine specific truths and creeds, and familiar passages of Scripture equipped us as we began to know our Heavenly Father.

John 3:16 is one of those often-internalized verses of Scripture. I would imagine that most Christ-followers (and maybe even some who aren’t believers) can recite the words quickly and without fail.

When’s the last time you really thought about what those words meant? You might consider slowly reading the words aloud or writing them in a journal. Ask God to show you something new as you meditate on each word. God is faithful. He will honor your efforts to discover anew His deep love for you.
