Ephesians 1:17-23
Anyone who has been married for long or has witnessed friends who have been married for long, knows that spouses know each other intimately. Married people get to know their partner’s moods, likes, dislikes, and even grunts and groans. After decades together, married couples know each other deeply.
In Ephesians 1:17-18, Paul prays fervent prayers of intercession on behalf of the church at Ephesus, praying that “you may know him better” and “may know the hope to which he has called you” (emphasis added). We need to observe, inquire, and get information about God from His Word.
Reading about God in other kinds of books is not the best way to get to know God. If I want to get to know another human being, I need to spend time with them, observing them, and talking to them, not relying on second-hand information or opinion from someone else.
In our quest to really get to know our Savior, let us spend time with Him, in His Word, in His presence, firsthand and not based on the opinions of others.
