Jesus: The Good News
March 7th, 2024
1 Corinthians 4:1-7
Bad news. It seems like that’s all we hear these days. It might be a devastating hurricane, another shooting, political mudslinging, or trusted Christian leaders failing.
Should we be shocked that the enemy of this world is trying to thwart the work of God Almighty? The enemy is prowling about like a roaring lion. He wants all of us to be hopeless, helpless, and terrorized on all sides. He loves it when Christians fight one another. Backbiting, gossip, taking sides, and stirring mistrust are his specialties. Don’t. Be. Unaware.
To another group of troubled and shaken followers, Jesus said: “In this world, you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world” (John 16:33).
Jesus’ encouragement means we don’t stick our heads in the sand at the first sign of trouble. Instead, we must be in the world: sanctified, holy, shining the light of Jesus. We look to Jesus to gain our vision, to keep focused, and to know our Source of strength. Then we act like Jesus. Love like Jesus. Care like Jesus. Jesus is the Good News! Like Jesus, be good news bearers in a world full of bad news.
