Foundation Problems Are No Joke

March 5th, 2024

1 Corinthians 3:11-15

My son Alex’s house had foundation problems. The house was settling and becoming unstable because of age and unsteady soil. The interior doors didn’t close properly. Cracks developed on some of the walls. The steps into the house were crooked.

He called a company, who came to inspect and measure the damages. They agreed—the house had problems. However, it could be repaired (for a cost). Workers placed steel piers under the house and leveled the foundation. It took them a few tries to get it right. Eventually, all was level and good. Now his house is steady. There are no cracks in the walls. The doors open and close as they should. A good foundation is necessary for the longevity of a house.

A proper foundation in needed in our Christian walk too. Like Jesus’ parable of the two builders, without a proper foundation on Christ, we won’t simply have cracked walls. The children’s song reminds us that the house on the sand goes “splat!” Let’s build our house on the solid rock of Jesus. He is the foundation on which we must rest.
