Love Is The G.O.A.T.
February 9th, 2024
1 Corinthians 13:1-7
Rachel cries at weddings. Usually, she just “little cries,” where her eyes get wet, but tears don’t fall. This spring, however, she’s preparing for the “ugly cry.” Why? Because her son is getting married. She will ugly cry. The part that gets her every time is the reading of 1 Corinthians 13.
It is so hard to love well and unconditionally. Did Paul really think it was possible for the church in Corinth to love like this? Paul did know that it was at the core of who Jesus was calling them to be. In Matthew 22:37, Jesus reminds us of the most important law: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.”
All-encompassing love requires that we sacrificially give up our own desires for the sake of others. Yes, for what is more sacrificial than being patient, than being kind? May today your love for God and others exude the sacrificial patience of God and the gentle kindness of our Jesus.
