Gains Vs Losses

John 12:23-29

Life living in the already but not yet kingdom of God means that things do not always make sense. John 12:25 is an example of that.

We must lose what we cannot keep in order to gain what we cannot earn. In order to gain God’s lasting joy, we have to give up instant happiness. In order to gain His peace, we have to give up control. In order to gain His strength, we have to admit our weakness. To have eternal and abundant life with Him, we have to give up life here on earth. This goes against everything the world is offering, but when we accept the life Christ offers, we gain more than we can ever earn and more than we deserve.

What areas of your life are you keeping control of? Where are you trying to work in your own strength? What areas of your life are you unwilling to lose? I would encourage you today to surrender what you cannot keep so that you may gain what you cannot earn.
