Illuminate The Darkness

January 12th, 2024

Ephesians 5:6-14

The evils of human trafficking and the often-accompanying struggles with addiction have ushered in a particularly pitch-black darkness in our world. If we’re honest, it can be tempting to only pray for its victims from afar while being filled with pity and heartbreak. Yet what would happen if we all reacted that way?

Every Friday night on the streets of a major city in my state, the light of God is bursting forth in the form of budding roses and hand-written cards gifted to women who often feel sub-human and unworthy of love. It shines in something as simple and yet painfully unfamiliar as meaningful eye contact, and it shines in prayer over them if they are willing.

As children of light, we are called to expose and illuminate dark places with the love of Christ rather than abandon them out of fear or a desire for comfort. How did God, through His children, shine the ultimate source of light in your midst? How can you do that for others in a tangible way today?
