Wake Up!

January 10th, 2024

Luke 11:33-36

My family and I recently attended a planetarium show for nostalgia’s sake. A heaviness threatened to knock me out as the room went dark and a soothing voice educated us on the constellations that would be in the sky that night. As time fast-forwarded and the next morning’s light began to illuminate the room, I snapped out of my near-slumber state.

Our present time that Paul wrote about is what some call the “already, not yet”: the dawn found between night and day. Christ has already come and defeated death and the grave, but He has not yet come back to make everything new. As we know all too well, sin and suffering linger. Yet, we do not have to remain prisoners of the night but can live as light-bearers clothed with Christ. As people of the new creation, we are called to live as citizens of God’s kingdom here and now (2 Corinthians 5:17).

This letter was written almost 2,000 years ago, but the urgency and alertness it commands must be alive in us today. Wake up! His magnificent light is breaking through. Can you see it?
