Angels We Have Heard On High

December 24th, 2023

Psalm 100:1-5

As we grow older, most of us really do love to give more than to receive. By far the biggest pleasure on Christmas morning is watching my family open the gifts that I have chosen specifically and wrapped for them. In those days and weeks leading up to Christmas, as I wrap, my mind is on the one for whom that gift is meant. I am full of anticipation, because I know the joy that awaits me in the tender Christmas morning hours. There is just something about giving that sets our hearts to soaring with joy.

When the psalmist tells us “to worship the LORD with gladness” (v. 2), I get the feeling that this is meant to be a Christmas morning sort of joyful song. The Father has gathered us to himself and lavished on us the gift of relationship. We have received the most amazing gift. In response, we sing back to Him. We receive, but we also give.

Count your blessings today and give back the gift of a grateful heart.
