Filled With The Spirit
November 19th, 2023
Psalm 143:1-12
Have you ever watched a nature documentary where a time-lapse camera is set up in a dry river bed? In one season the ground is dry, cracked, as if it is crying out for relief only possible through precipitation. All of the sudden, as if the sky is responding in empathy to the cry of the land, the rain begins to fall. The water gathers in the dry bed and rushes through the previously hewn rock. The dry land is revived again.
Our desire for the Holy Spirit should be as dry land yearning for water. The Psalmist cried out to God regularly and is a great model for us to cry out for a fresh outpouring of the Spirit.
A great analogy is that of a lightbulb. It was designed to run on electricity. If disconnected from the electricity it does not fulfill what it was designed to do. We are designed to be filled with the Spirit and have a deep longing to be filled.
May we be so filled with the Spirit that we impact the world around us.
