Answer God’s Call

November 4th, 2023

1 Peter 5:1-7

In most churches there are folks chosen to lead. leaders are chosen, first by God, then by congregations, to take care of the needs of the church property and the flock they lead. Some do it with humble compassion. Some lord their positions over others. Since the first century, churches have been dealing with the challenges of church leadership. That’s one of the reasons Peter wrote his first letter.

Leading God’s people requires leaders to courageously follow their God-given call to “be shepherds of God’s flock” (v. 2). Spiritual gifts are absolutely necessary to successfully shepherd any number of God’s people. With God’s Spirit leading and guiding, the humble shepherd can trust the Lord without anxiety.

Only those called by God to lead should accept those positions and responsibilities. If folks aren’t called to serve as leaders, they’ll likely struggle in their position. Whatever we’re called to, we should humbly trust the Lord to motivate, lead, equip, and sustain us as we serve Him and His Church. Everyone can humbly serve and intercede for church leaders.
