From An Overflowing Heart

2 Corinthians 9:8-15

Paul arranged for the Corinthians to provide for the church in Macedonia. He wrote to remind them of their faith promise to give in this “ministry to the saints” (2 Corinthians 9:1, nrsv). The community in Corinth inspired Paul to brag on them to the Macedonians. It seems that they also inspired the church in Achaia as well!

Ministry done from an overflowing heart is contagious. Ministry and service to others in the name of Jesus brings joy and delight, not only to their recipients, but also to those serving. Many volunteers in service projects say that they were blessed more than the people they were serving. It’s the joy that comes from a living faith that makes “a cheerful giver” (9:7).

The Great Tradition of the Church is set on Christ’s gospel, as Jaroslav Pelikan brilliantly said, “Tradition is the living faith of the dead; traditionalism is the dead faith of the living.” We live out our worship and confession as we joyfully follow the servant way of Jesus for God’s glory.
