Peace Worth Cultivating

James 3:10-18

The issue of peacemaking is on the minds of people around the world.

James outlines here a set of contrasts. The writer contrasts salty water with freshwater. He proposes that the nature of plants determines their fruit. He sets down the foundation of his pinnacle argument: What is in a person’s heart determines their course and will be seen by the world. Manipulation and a self-serving disposition will be revealed in the end, just as fruit reveals the type of plant that is growing.

In Matthew 5:9, Jesus taught, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.” When God is in our hearts, peace flows out.

There are times that I do not feel very wise. That is good when it humbles us. Then we must look to God for wisdom that can lead to peace. Submit to God. In submission, we find humility.

Are you a peacemaker? Do you love with sincerity? Do we walk in purity?
