Covenant of Love

July 4th, 2023

Deuteronomy 7:7-11

Too often, Christians define themselves by what they are not rather than who they are. Christians draw boundaries between certain behaviors and lifestyles. Christians have been known to draw these lines in ways that obscure the expansive scope of God’s covenantal love, expecting people to live up to humanly and rigid expectations more than living faithfully in the power of God’s redemptive hands.

Faithful living begins with remembering God’s mighty work. The Lord God breaks the bondage of earthly and merely political powers—even the might of a great pharaoh. The people of God are released to live in the presence of God who keeps His word. This kind of faithfulness is woven into the fabric of God’s love stretching from the past into the future. Where God is, He is faithful.

Let’s uphold God’s standard of holiness by living outwardly by the means of what God has already done inwardly by His transforming power. Christians will become image-bearers of God’s covenant.
