Our Hope In God

July 1st, 2023

Lamentations 3:19-29

Hope is often misplaced. We are taught early in life to depend on ourselves. Independence is prized along with education, success, and health. Life is funny, though. Any of those can be taken away with a sudden illness or someone’s deception and cruelty.

They are easy words to say, “I put my hope in God.” Our hope is tested when life throws us curve balls. Jeremiah had experienced devastating loss. In the middle of distress, Jeremiah turned a corner. He expressed hope. What was the source of his hope? It was God’s love. He expressed confidence that God was present and would help him. Jeremiah was still in the difficulty. Yet, he chose to remember God’s love.

God’s love won’t make our problems go away, but it can give us confidence and peace in the middle of them. When we seek God, God will always be found. It is easy to hope in God when times are good. When we place our hope in God during difficulties, it can be life changing.
