A Labor of Love

February 12th, 2023

Galatians 3:26—4:7

Rachel’s first son seemed to take forever to get into this world. His birth was laborious to say the least. In the end, there he was, all 8 lbs. and 1 oz. of him, looking up with huge eyes. The previous pain did not matter because her son had finally arrived.

Thousands of years went by with no sign of a savior. In efforts to redeem themselves, the people of God turned to idols, kings, other nations, and hopeless sacrifices. The waiting seemed too long, the pains of life were laborious. Then one day an angel came to a teenage virgin girl and broke the silence and reignited a promise from long ago. Mary heard. She said yes. She waited. Then one night under a star of hope and expectation, the long-awaited promise was fulfilled. Jesus, Emmanuel, God with us, had made His entry into this world.

God’s promise was kept that day and continues to live in us. May the pain of today and the struggle of tomorrow be overshadowed by the arrival of Christ our King.
