Generational Kindness

February 8th, 2023

2 Samuel 9:1-7

Warm hugs and sloppy kisses were planted on little cheeks. The aunt beamed with excitement to see her nieces and nephews for the very first time. Her heart was fat with love and even her eyes smiled, with deep wrinkles in the corners. Each little one stood with eyes wide at this small old lady whom they had never met but seemed to love them so much.

Love has a way of breaking through the bonds of time and experiences. It is passed down from generation to generation like genetics. David’s love for Mephibosheth was not for his sake, but for the love of his father that passed on in David’s heart and mind. It was a love that sought out, expressed kindness, and unearthed promises from long ago. The unexpected gift that David gave changed the life of the crippled son of Jonathan.

How can you show love in unexpected ways today? What promises can you fulfill or pass on that will show the love of God to the least of these? Choose one kindness and do it today!
