Never Again

December 2nd, 2022

1 Peter 3:13-22

As we stood next to the pond, he looked at me and said, “I can’t ever let that happen again.” Just prior to that comment, his brother had surrendered his life to Jesus. It had been a beautiful moment, a young man at the end of his rope yielding himself to the clear call of Jesus, beginning the transformative journey that lay ahead.

The problem for my friend was that I had been the one that had shared “the reason for the hope I have.” I’d been the one to explain the gospel. Though seemingly benign, this was a significant issue for my friend. Realizing his brother was taking steps toward Jesus and feeling ill-equipped and ill-qualified to lead him down that path, I got a late-night crisis call. “Pastor, come to the rescue.”

Having been redeemed and reconciled, recipients and participants in the good news of Jesus, we have a responsibility to be prepared to give a reason for the hope we have. Our testimony of faith is our commission to mission.
