Hebrews 6:4-12

There is a troubling text for us Wesleyan readers. For all of the context in the scripture that grants us an optimism of grace—a hope that it is never too late for someone to repent—here we have a text that says if they have been in, and are now out, it is impossible for them to come back.

When we have tasted heaven and shared in the Holy Spirit, we must remain diligent in our pursuit of these gifts! If we have tasted God’s goodness and salvation, we must not rely on that past experience! Our experience must drive us over and over to seek God! Having been lifted out of our sin into a relationship with God, we must be persistent in learning, reading, studying scripture, being mentored, mentoring, praying, being prayed for, worshipping, and many other disciplines.

God gifts us His presence when we look for Him. We remain responsible to be active in the relationship God establishes with us.
