Victory Through Jesus

1 Corinthians 15:20-31

Ever considered the biblical report of others who had “fallen asleep” and were brought back from their slumber? Even in life, Jesus had power over death. All who had been brought back eventually “fell asleep” again, except one, Jesus. Jesus is “the firstfruits of those who had fallen asleep.” In Jesus, death no longer had any power. Jesus would never “fall asleep” again.

Part of me would love to know the details about what happened behind the cosmic curtain between Jesus’s last breath on the cross and His first appearance after resurrection. This isn’t to give me further confidence in my faith. I’m just curious.

I’m glad that having more details doesn’t make it more real. Death and its effects were dealt the decisive blow in Jesus. Whatever went on, we know we have hope beyond the grave because of Jesus. People can argue about faith and God because of the perceived uncertainty. Whatever their argument, they can’t dismiss Jesus.

Jesus: fully God, fully man, a man still alive and well.
