Worship Christ with your Gifts
December 21st, 2021
Matthew 2:7-12
That Christmas Aimee’s parents had told her that there was no possible way she would get a Cabbage Patch Doll: the dolls were too expensive and hard to find. She had geared herself up to be thankful for whatever she was given, but there before her was a doll-shaped box!
The gifts the wise men brought Jesus seem like odd choices for a small child. Gold is the gift for a king, frankincense is burned to honor a deity, and myrrh is an oil used for burial. Each gift is a reflection of who Jesus is. Right at the outset of His life on earth, Jesus’ identity and future mission are proclaimed.
This advent season, Jesus calls you to remember exactly who He is. Sometimes we focus on the baby in the manger and forget His magnificent deity. Sometimes we glance past the manger and focus solely on Jesus’ journey to the cross. Let us never forget the child that received the wise men’s gifts. How can you worship Christ with your gifts?
