Blessed to be a Blessing
October 4th, 2021
Genesis 12:1-9
I have been greatly blessed by God. Perhaps you have too. So many of us have been given so much from God. The big question is, why have we been so blessed?
In Genesis 12, the Lord tells Abraham to leave everything and go somewhere that Abraham doesn’t know. The Lord says He will make Abraham into a great nation and bless him. Abraham went; God blessed. Why?
First, God blesses Abraham because He loves Abraham. God blesses people because He loves people. God blesses you because He loves you. Secondly, God’s promise to bless Abraham is expanded to bless the whole world. “I will bless you,” God says to Abraham, “and you will be a blessing. . . . and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you” (vv. 2-3). Abraham was blessed to be a blessing to the whole world.
God blesses all people because God loves all people. The blessings God gives us are intended to be shared with all. We are blessed to be a blessing to others. I need to be asking God who I should bless with all that I have been given.
