Psalm 50:12-23

In Psalm 50, God speaks clearly and plainly about His righteous anger towards sin. It’s hard sometimes to think of the anger of God, but we must realize that God hates sin because it destroys the creation He loves. God hates sin for what it does to you and to me. Sin destroys what God created and our relationship with God and others. God is not silent about sin, because God loves us.

The just and righteous heart of God calls us out of our sin, away from our flirtation with death. Humanity is so easily enamored by the perception that sin tastes good, gives fulfillment, births beauty. Sin destroys. God speaks boldly and clearly and aggressively, so that our eyes are opened to the grotesque face of sin hidden under the lies that we so easily believe. In the face of utter destruction, God’s voice of love is a clear proclamation, “Call on me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honor me” (v. 15).
