Genesis 2:7-15

Adam was called to work the garden of Eden, to take care of it.  The Hebrew word for “work” (abad) means to till or cultivate.  Adam was called to be a caretaker of what God had given him: the garden of Eden. By cultivating the garden, every living thing would grow according to its potential. Plants and animals would be fruitful and multiply, and then the garden would begin to spread to fill the earth. Adam’s purpose was to help the garden spread to fill the earth.

Adam didn’t own the garden. The garden was owned by God and given to Adam for a particular purpose. Adam was God’s steward. A steward is a manager who looks after another person’s property.  God entrusted and empowered Adam to cultivate the garden for God’s purposes.

What is your purpose? Just like Adam, you are God’s steward. All that you have has been given to you in order for you to cultivate it and take care of it. Just like Adam, God has entrusted and empowered you to share and spread His love to fill the earth.
