John 4:1-14

Mahalia Jackson was an influential gospel singer and civil rights activist for over 40 years, with a dozen million-selling songs. Known as the Queen of Gospel, she was the first gospel singer to perform at Carnegie Hall, and sang in front of thousands on the day Martin Luther King, Jr. made his I Have a Dream speech. She also sang Take My Hand, Precious Lord at his funeral. “I sing God’s music because it makes me feel free,” Jackson once said, adding, “When you finish singing the blues, you still have the blues. Gospel gives hope!

Her song Jesus Met the Woman at the Well, unfortunately did not tell the whole story of the Samaritan woman in John 4. Not stopping by telling “everything she had done,” Christ’s response to her needs changed her life. She then ran to tell everything that Jesus had done! She invited everyone in town to meet someone who could be the Messiah, and after two days with Him they were convinced that He indeed was the Savior of the world. She shared the living water given to her and He gave others eternal life.
