Leave It To God

Hebrews 10:26-35
To avenge means to retaliate, punish, redress, revenge, or even the score. God says that it is His to avenge. He will repay. Yet the human temptation is to take matters like these into our own hands. There are three reasons why we do that: a desire to get even, a need for everything to be fair, a reluctance to wait for God to take care of it.
If we are honest, we don’t want to leave it up to God because He may not do it the way we think it should be done. He may also take too long for our comfort. Furthermore, we are not fully capable of releasing it into His hands. We need His help to do that. Indubitably, our concern about fairness is when the scales are weighed against us and not when they are leaning strongly in our favor.
The Lord will not only judge the ungodly, but scripture says that He will judge His people; it is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God (v. 31). A sign of a sanctified life is to let go of things that need avenged and leave them in God’s hands.
