The Love of A Friend, Shared
February 10th, 2021
John 1:29-42
Very few people enter into a relationship with Jesus on their own. Almost everyone has a story of a friend, relative, or loved one who introduced them to Jesus for the first time.
This passing on of relationships has been God’s way of sharing himself from the earliest days of the gospel. John’s entire mission was to preach people into Christ’s presence—decreasing his own following while increasing awareness of the coming Messiah. We see an example of his success in the apostle Andrew, who had once followed John the Baptist and then eventually became one of the twelve closest friends to Jesus.
Andrew brought along his brother, Peter, who would eventually be far better-known than Andrew.
Like John the Baptist before him, Andrew understood that the truest way to honor our relationship with Jesus is to share it with someone else—even if that winds up decreasing our own notoriety. We never know the impact that we may have on God’s kingdom simply by sharing the love of God with the people He has placed in our lives.
