One Or The Other

Matthew 6:19-24

Western culture lends itself to an environment of consumerism. A wealth of information, ideas, and things are available to us at the drop of a hat. Credit cards easily resolve any unquenched desire and just about anything we want is waiting in cyberspace to be added to our online shopping cart. Treasure, it would seem, is easily delivered to our doors, stored in our closets, and stuffed in toy chests, bringing joy and happiness with each added parcel.

We work hard so we can play hard. Before we know it, our “things” have become our gods.

Is it possible that our things have become our masters? Could it be that we have begun to serve our longings over the God who saves us? Jesus is clear: we cannot serve both God and money. If we love money, by default we despise God.

Take a moment to realign your heart with the heart of God today asking yourself if you have served a master other than God.
