Do Not Fear 365
August 20th, 2020
Isaiah 43:1-7
365. That is the number of times the Bible tells us not to be afraid. Once for every day of the year. Yet we are constantly living in fear that something bad will happen to us, our children, our finances, our community.
What is interesting in Isaiah 43 is that it doesn’t say if bad things happen God will redeem you. It says, when bad things happen God will redeem you. I’m not entirely sure where we got the idea that being faithful means having a life free of trouble, but Scripture seems to say that trials and hardships will come to all of us.
None of us is immune from the chaos of life. Trials and difficult times are bound to come because we live in a broken, sinful world but the good news is that we will not be undone by those times. The fire will come, but we will not be burned; the chaotic waters will threaten, but God walks through the waters with us.
God does not promise to keep bad things from happening to us, but God does promise to be with us.
