John 9:24-34

The man born blind had nothing at stake when the Pharisees called him to answer for his healing. He just testified to the truth, “One thing I do know. I was blind but now I see!” The Pharisees continued in their disbelief no matter what the man said. In a remarkable statement of bravery, the man almost chided the Pharisees in what little they did know.

In our world today many claim they know the absolute truth about God and how we should worship, who we should accept and reject, and even what our politics look like. Every one of those expressions of faith falls or has fallen victim to legalism and practices that must grieve the heart of God. Some of our faith communities struggle with the same disbelief. How can God heal that addict? Or forgive the murderer? Or redeem the lying politician? Do we throw them out? Or do we listen to the truth that nothing is impossible for God?
