What Am I?
May 6th, 2020
Romans 2:1-11
Kids fight. They pull hair, throw punches, and call hurtful names. When these verbal assaults are made, the frantic defender will often return the verbal fire with a single phrase: “I know what you are, but what am I?” For the immature child, it’s the perfect shield.
Sounds childish, right? Sadly, adults fight the same way. We build ourselves up by tearing others down.
As long as other people’s failures and shortcomings are in the spotlight on display, we can keep our own sins hidden in the shadows.
Then Jesus comes along and casts the light upon us all. Truth is, we’re all sinners. We all suffer from the same disease. We’re all bound by the same curse. We’re all held captive by sin.
Yet, Jesus became the remedy. He broke the curse. He set us free.
So, we can put down the weapons. Drop the shield. Confess both the truth of our sin, and the good news of a Defender and Deliverer.
