The Power of the Resurrection
April 9th, 2020
Philippians 3:1-14
In our culture, we like power and control. We like the supposed safety and security that seems to come with having power over our circumstance or others. Paul, while he was known as Saul, had all that and more. He had the right pedigree, education, connections, and position. He had the “power” until Jesus knocked him off his horse and turned Saul’s life, including his definition of power, upside-down.
Paul’s culture was not so different from ours. The notion that power could be aligned with obedience, suffering, and death was just as foreign then as it is to us. However, the power of the resurrection is just that: to become like Jesus in His death, we somehow will be raised like Him. It’s a foreign concept, really. It belongs to another Kingdom. The power of the kingdom is the power of the resurrection that endures the cross and is raised to new life.
This is the Way of salvation and holiness. It must become our way.
