Recognizing God
March 10th, 2020
John 7:14-31
Technology has advanced so much that now software exists that can identify or verify a person from a photo or video. By comparing select facial features from an image to faces within a database, computers are able to identify people.
Jesus was having a tumultuous time in ministry. People were demanding miracles, followers were deserting, religious leaders were plotting, and crowds were complaining. Ultimately, this was because people failed to recognize who Jesus was. Everyone had ideas of who Jesus should be or could be, but very few recognized the Messiah—the very Son of God.
Not knowing who Jesus was revealed that people did not know who God was. Jesus wasn’t making up new teachings; He was revealing God to them. The same God who had chosen them from all others to be His people. And yet they failed to recognize God.
As followers of Christ, we are called to be imitators of God. We are transformed, reflecting God in all we are and do. Can others see your life and recognize God?

The devotional talks refers to the availability of facial recognition software, so it’s a good time to also mention that good translation software is also available. Here is the English translation of the Portuguese in the preceding comment.
It’s a good prayer for all of us.
Glory to God!
I want to look like Jesus.
May people recognize him in me for the glory of God in Christ Jesus my Lord. Amen.
