Together Through God’s Love

Isaiah 54:1-10
I remember looking across the sanctuary one Sunday while the congregation was singing, “O God, our Help in Ages Past.” What struck me is who I saw standing side by side; co-worshippers of Jesus singing with full voices: Jeff and Scott.
Jeff was a rocket scientist who had graduated from Olivet Nazarene University and later served in the United States armed forces with valor. Scott was a man stuck in homelessness who faithfully placed a dollar bill in the offering plate every Sunday. These two became friends who studied the Bible together and stood side-by-side singing ancient hymns of worship.
The condition of life of these two friends, these two brothers, did nothing to change the character of the God they worshipped. Education, wealth, family status, health, not even the pillow they placed their head upon at night, separated them from the love of God.
May you find hope and peace in the words of God as you hear His song, “‘Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed,” (Isaiah 54:10).
