Unaccompanied Alien Children

Our Compassionate Ministries Center, Mosaic Compassion, accepted the call from God to provide care for children who were under the legal protection of the US Office of Refugee Resettlement. These children had escaped horrific conditions in their country of origin and had fled to America seeking safety and shelter. The government labeled these children UAC, Unaccompanied Alien Children. They had entered the country without a known adult family member.
It did not escape me how similar my journey to Jesus was like the journey of these children. My life, without Jesus is full of inescapable torment. I need rescued. So, I run to the only source of safety—the name of the Lord!
I will never forget the voice of one boy as he reached his mother in Central America by phone for the first time in the months since his harrowing journey began. In Spanish, he said with confidence, “Mommy, I’m alive. I’m at a church and the people are taking care of me. I’m very safe.” This is what it means to be a child of the living God.
