Amos 3:1-7

Throughout the stages of our lives, how many sleepless nights have we spent praying, pleading to God for help to understand His will? Often we think that if we make one misstep we are removed from God’s plan forever. Let’s start with the most important fact of the entire Bible: God loves us. He wants a deep, meaningful, intimate relationship with us. That’s God’s will for our lives.

Of course, it’s not quite that simple. There is the unknown will; we struggle with the specifics. Even Jesus, in the midst of great struggle, was questioning God’s plan. Jesus had His own sleepless night calling out to His Father, asking for deliverance saying, “my Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will” (Matthew 26:39).

There will be many unexpected chapters in our lives. It’s how we respond that guides our lives. Will we trust God when we can’t see past the next few steps? Will we let these unwanted experiences grow our faith in God, who didn’t promise a stress-free life but who will always be with us and never forsake us?
