2 Peter 1:12-21

I confess, growing up I was afraid of the dark. And frankly, I’m not that crazy about it now. Maybe that is one reason I live in a major metropolitan area where light is abundant 24 hours a day. As a child, I would sit in the dark imagining all sorts of monsters lurking in every corner. It was amazing that the moment I would get the courage to move and turn on a light every single monster disappeared. All the scary things that lived in the dark were totally eliminated by light.

Peter was with Jesus during most of the key moments of His ministry. Peter was part of the small group of disciples present as Jesus ascended to heaven when His earthly life was completed.

Peter explains that the prophecy of Jesus found throughout the Bible is comparable to a light shining in a dark place. Through the years, God continued to shine light into the darkness of despair providing hope where none existed. This light shone until the moment that Jesus arrived in Bethlehem, Emmanuel—God with us.
