Acts 19:1-10

Twelve disciples were found in Ephesus on Paul’s missionary journey who needed more instruction. Their mentor, Apollos (Acts 18:24-28), was a vibrant teacher of the Way of Jesus, but knew only of John’s baptism. Priscilla and Aquila heard Apollos’ teaching, took him aside, and updated him in accuracy about the Way of the Lord. Apollos was so “spirited” in his desires to share the good news of Jesus as Messiah, that he moved on to Achaia and was tremendously helpful to the believers there.

Paul found these twelve disciples, whose teacher has gone away, lacking a spirited passion for faith in Jesus. On hearing the truth the twelve were baptized in Jesus’ name. Paul laid on hands and they were filled with the Holy Spirit, producing spiritual gifts that motivated them to prophesy in other languages. Two years laster the resulting fruit was that all residents of Asia had heard the word of the Lord.

A spirit-filled ministry produces fruit. Receive the Holy Spirit and obey its leading into a beautiful, powerful ministry.
