Psalm 139:1-12

My little girl has very little fear. She will spring forward with enthusiasm and dance with her whole heart. She runs to catch up with her brothers and does a pretty good job keeping up with them despite several years difference in ages. The big slides at the park don’t phase her. She climbs up the ladder and slides down, only to turn around and do it again.

This summer Beatrice has been taking swim lessons at the local YMCA. She loves the water and has a lot less fear of it than her mother is comfortable with. I think a large part of her confidence (and therefore lack of fear) comes from her innate belief that I am there to catch her. She doesn’t hesitate. She doesn’t debate whether I’ll show up this time or not. She simply jumps into my arms.

Trusting God to catch you may not be easy for you. Fear can be a powerful, ugly thing. We doubt. We hesitate. We fear the worst. And yet, God is still there, waiting to take our hand and guide us. He hasn’t left. Allow God to open your heart to the love that casts out fear.
