Power to Serve

Acts 6:1-7
The pastor sat in her office with the door closed. Anyone passing by, looking through the window, would have thought her deep in prayer, but her bowed head was not in humble prayer but in utter defeat from the load of ministry she had been carrying.
In a living room, on the other side of the world, a Sunday school teacher sat in a similar position. He was thinking, “Maybe I can convince them I am too sick to teach this week?” He felt utterly empty and didn’t know where to begin to prepare for his class.
In a kitchen that could be anywhere in the world, a mother leaned against the sink and sighed in frustration and hopelessness. How in the world did the Lord expect her to raise these children?
Each of these examples shows that ministry is a heavy load when we try to carry it in our own strength. It is only when we are filled with the Holy Spirit that we are empowered for whatever ministry God has for us. No matter the type of ministry, we must be filled with the Spirit to do God’s work.
